There are first times that mark you for ever. For Randy de Puniet, his first time on the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, during the test days of the 24H SPA EWC Motos, will not be forgotten for a long time. The ex-MotoGP rider discovered something there that he describes as “the most beautiful circuit which I have ever ridden on.” The compliment is even more appreciable since it comes from a former star of many Grands Prix, who has ridden on dozens of international tracks throughout his career.

“It’s quite simply magnificent to ride, its thrills… I loved it and lots of riders think the same way!”, the French native continues, joining in the general opinion expressed by participants in the forthcoming 24H SPA EWC Motos. He already has his head focused on his race: “We go over 300 km/hr at high speed and there are a lot of corners where you are truly going for it so you have to be really precise about trajectories. The smallest error is going to cost you and you could easily lose a good second by missing an apex on this long track of 7 kilometres”.

A rider for the Team Webike SRC Kawasaki France, Randy de Puniet sees himself leaving Belgium with a new trophy to put on his shelves. His team is not the favourite, but nothing has ever been ordained in advance in mechanical sports. Even less so when it concerns endurance, and Spa-Francorchamps. “In pure performance, we are not yet at the same level as the four best, but endurance always holds lots of surprises. On paper we come in fifth place, but in terms of how the event plays out and the inevitable facts of the race, we can legitimately hope to step up on the podium.”
