21°, dry and sunny conditions were ideal for the first qualifying session of the 24H SPA EWC Motos at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The session was particularly competitive between the official Yamaha, Honda and BMW teams, all of whom had one rider at the top of the timesheet. The best time for the blue group was set by the Josh Hook, riding the N°5 F.C.C. TSR Honda France Honda. Fastest in the yellow group was Illya Mykhalchyk on the N°37 bike for the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team. Finally, among the riders with the red armband, the best time was set by the N°7 Yamaha of the YART team. The best time overall was set by the world champion machine, the No. 1 Yoshimura SERT Motul Suzuki, ridden by Belgian Xavier Simeon, which remained in the top five throughout the three runs, despite some technical problems.
In Superstock, it was the N° 777 Yamaha of the Wojcik Racing Team STK that was the fastest on two occasions in both the yellow and red groups; almost on a par with the N° 55 National Motos Honda, in the top 5 of the three sessions. Another one to watch is the Yamaha of Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers CMS Motostore, which is leading the championship, and which also reached the top 5 in each group, including the first position in the blue armbands.
The next qualifying session takes place on Friday at 11.25. The starting grid will be determined on the basis of the average time achieved by the two fastest drivers of each team.
Three races will also take place on Friday 3 June: the first round of the European Handy Bridgestone Cup at 2.20 pm, the first round of the FIM Sidecar World Championship at 2.45 pm, and the 4H Spa Classic from 4 pm to 8 pm to conclude the day.
